LGSL FAQ's
Here are some LGSL FAQ's
What can you tell me about Leesburg Girls Softball (LGSL)?
-
Rules - LGSL aligns its rules and structure to support a natural progression from house league to all-stars to travel and then into High School and College.
-
Where we began - Leesburg Girls Softball was established in 1997 for the distinct purpose of providing a fun, high-quality softball league for the girls of the Leesburg area. For over 15 years, LGSL has built a community of people who are passionate about teaching girls of all abilities to play softball.
-
Travel Players – Based on years of experience and feedback from travel players, parents and team managers we at LGSL feel that it is detrimental to require our travel team players to “play down” in the house league. At LGSL our house league coaches are able to focus on each player to help her develop the core fundamentals of the game that will instill confidence. Our top house league players have an additional opportunity to play on “All-Star” Freedom teams each year. LGSL believes that all girls have the right to play, learn and excel as softball players on the field and in life!
-
Live in Leesburg- Play in Leesburg! – All of the LGSL Board Members live in Leesburg! Most of our LGSL house games are played right here in Leesburg at some of the most beautiful fields in the nation—Freedom Park and Bolen Park. Girls who want to play close to home play for LGSL!
-
Loudoun County Softball Alliance – LGSL’s partnership with the Loudoun County Softball Alliance gives us a continuous pulse on the softball community locally, regionally and nationally. This partnership also allows all the leagues involved to offer a consistent, quality, high level of competition between our leagues. We share knowledge and best practices to ensure we all deliver the best softball experience possible for all Loudoun County residents conveniently in their own communities.
-
Board of Directors – LGSL has a fantastic Board of Directors committed to growing our league and the love of softball in Leesburg and Loudoun County. We are very passionate about our sustainability in the softball community. The LGSL Board has complete control of the programs we support and the philosophies we feel are beneficial in the development of our girls. This passion and consistent control allows the player to continue developing her softball skills in a natural progression all the way to college and beyond. At LGSL we have an appropriate program to serve ALL girls ages 4-18 no matter the ability or skill level.
At the 6U age division teams are formed by the House League Director. For 8U, teams are formed through a collaboration between the House League Director and the 8U coaches for the season. The 10U through Senior teams are formed through a Draft after player evaluations. Player evaluations will be held prior to the start of each season.
For which age level should my daughter register?
Age group registration is based on your player's birth year and their age on December 31 of the previous year. For example, when registering your player for the Spring season, if your player will be turning 11 in May of the current year, they would still register in the 10U age division for Spring because they were age 10 on December 31. For Fall registration, players are allowed to register either in the age division they played (or would have played) in the Spring or in the age division they would be required to play in for the upcoming Spring Season.
What if I believe my daughter should play in a different age group (play up or play down)?
You must register your player in their appropriate age division (see above). There is a place on the registration form that you can check if you would like to request to play up an age division. You can also indicate in the special concerns section of the registration if you would like your player to play down. Requests to play in a different age group are handled on a case by case basis and will be brought to the LGSL Board for approval. You will be notified once the Board has made it's decision.
